Roles of Vitamin D

Vitamin D is the most essential part of a healthy diet. Plenty of new benefits are being discovered every day. But there are still lots of people who don’t consume this vitamin. It contributes a lot to joint and bone health as it helps the body in absorbing calcium. It has been proven that people who take enough vitamin D suffer less from problems related to joint pain and osteoporosis. This vitamin also slows the affects of arthritis and lessens back pain. Studies say that vitamin D also prevents certain types of cancer.
It is one of the only vitamins that is produced naturally. However, for producing this vitamin, it needs to be exposed to adequate amount of sunlight. Generally, an hour per week is enough, but surprisingly there are people who don’t get exposed to sun. Also, studies say that as we grow old there are less chances of our body producing vitamin D, no matter how much you get exposed to the sun.
Good amount of vitamin D is available from fishes that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Cod liver oil derived from the liver of cod fish is rich in vitamin D. Below are some benefits of this complex vitamin:
• It helps in maintaining your calcium balance
• Helps in maintenance of blood calcium levels
• Helps in normal functioning of the nervous system
• Helps in the growth of bones
Adequate vitamin D also helps in decreasing high sugar levels and against diseases like osteoporosis, cancer, hypertension and more.…

Vitamin E Protects Lungs From Damage

A new study in women over the age of 45 has shown that long-term, regular use of vitamin E can lower the risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) by about 10 percent in both smokers and non-smokers.
“The findings from our study suggest that increasing vitamin E prevents COPD,” said Ms. Agler. “Previous research found that higher intake of vitamin E was associated with a lower risk of COPD, but the studies were not designed to answer the question of whether increasing vitamin E intake would prevent COPD. Using a large, randomized controlled trial to answer this question provided stronger evidence than previous studies.”
Yes, it is studies like this that make the vitamin-hating, Big Pharma-sponsored public health goons heads spin. COPD is the 4th leading cause of death in America and costs the health care system well over 40 billion dollars per year. While they are busy telling everyone there is nothing you can do about it besides take your symptom-alleviating drugs, this new study shows that the vitamin the American Heart Association loves to hate may help this problem immensely. Of course, vitamin E also helps heart health but the AHA doesn’t want you to believe that, as its bad for drug sales.
COPD is the term given to progressive lung deterioration. It is a general term reflecting both lung inflammation and lung damage. It is more common in smokers, but it is now common due to excessive pollution in any major metropolitan area. It flares up when there is a respiratory infection. Chronic mucous is a typical symptom, which is produced by inflammation within the lungs reflective of some type of respiratory distress.
The weakening of lung function is a significant health issue because it is harder for a person to get oxygen into their body – in turn stressing cardiovascular function and overall cellular health. The fact that the medical establishment has been able to plop a name on a set of symptoms and issues is of little value to anyone and is a further treatment to the failure of Western medicine to truly improve the human condition.
Until Americans get over their fixation on drugs to fix their symptoms there is very little that can be done to control health care costs. Of course, individuals actually learning something about their health is a first step in the right direction. Soon thereafter, an understanding of the value of natural remedies to fix and prevent health problems begins to become apparent and self-evident (as various remedies are tried).
Vitamin E is one of the most important nutrients for human health during aging. Tocotrienols are far and away the most active form of vitamin E.…

How Do You Treat Pericardial Mesothelioma ?

Of all the cancers caused by asbestos dust (mesothelioma), pericardial mesothelioma is the most rare, accounting for a fraction of all cases (5%). It is a cancer that grows on the pericardium (the lining of the heart). This is a delicate ‘film’, and any infection on the pericardium can have deadly consequences.

Once an individual has been diagnosed with pericardial mesothelioma they are offered three different treatment options. These are radiation, surgery and chemotherapy. Pericardial mesothelioma is extremely difficult to treat (due to the intricacies involved in removing the tumours from the pericardium), and a patient’s chances of survival are slim. All three methods have a poor success rate mainly due to the fact that pericardial mesothelioma is detected in the mature stages of development. (The reason for this is because in the early stages of the cancer the symptoms resemble those of diseases such as pneumonia). The prognosis for a patient undergoing treatment at this point (mature stage) is usually less than a year.

Before treatment, the patient requires a doctor’s evaluation in order to determine which of the three treatments are suitable for him/her. Details such as age, weight, medical history, and general well-being are considered prior to the commencement of treatment. So, how do you treat pericardial mesothelioma ?

Radiation – As with all cancer treatments that use this method, large doses of radiation are used to kill the cancerous cells on the pericardium. The downside to radiation treatment is that not only are you killing off the cancerous cells, but you are also damaging the vital organs in close proximity to the heart, namely the lungs. The heart also gets damaged (due to the large doses of radiation).

Surgery – We can break this down into two parts; aggressive surgery and palliative procedures. Aggressive surgery involves the removal of the cancerous cell. Since these are very close to the heart and lungs, this makes it an extremely precarious procedure and one that requires an extremely skilled surgeon.

Palliative procedures are used in the latest of stages of pericardial mesothelioma and serve the sole purpose of reducing the symptoms. Usually at this stage the cancer is practically incurable.

Chemotherapy – This is the most widely-used of cancer therapies which involves the use of drugs to kill the cancerous cells. Unfortunately, the majority of drugs used have a low success rate with pericardial mesothelioma. Research is being conducted to come up with a cocktail of drugs that have a more favourable outcome.

There does exist another form of treatment which involves using all three aforementioned treatment options. It is known as Dual Therapy. Surgery is used to remove the cancerous cells, then chemotherapy and radiation are used to kill the remaining cells. The success rate for this method is higher than just using radiation, surgery or chemotherapy alone, but can still be dangerous.…

Hair Care – New Spring Styles For 2011

These days a good majority of women are putting on shorter hair in order to compensate for less time in the morning to work on the hairdo, but for the spring of 2011, look for longer locks on women, even the working woman.
Women are coming to terms with the fact that longer hair can actually be easily cared for while shorter hair may take extra work in order to tame those curls or to set the hair in the spikes that look nice. Flat short do’s are becoming don’ts for spring of 2011, with a far softer and more feminine look coming to the fore.
Long soft curls or long sleek locks with a bit of body are making the scene at the workplace and in the home and gym. Long hair can be easy care, it simply requires a style that permits you to finger comb and go like some of those tousled short do’s used to be.
The second reason why short hair is making it’s way out and slightly longer styles are coming into play in 2011 is that this year, its all about movement. The slight sway that longer hair can offer. Styles are going to appear to be moving even if they are well locked into place with gels or sprays. Clever cutting styles and easy techniques to add height and volume will make even the most well styled and laid down hair appear to have movement.
Another important concept for 2011 is a brand new look called the candy floss texture and style. Its very soft, extremely feminine to view and has a very matte finish to it, rather than a high gloss type style. A spray of sea salt or salt water is offering this great new look and then the hair is backcombed to achieve the effect of softly flowing hair even if its been gelled into place with a vengeance.
The soft side part or a center parting is back in style with the pouf that was last year on its way out again, but along with the part comes a soft fringe or a blunt cut set of bangs that will lend some softness and some swing to the style that you’re newest look is an arc cut bangs that add some swing and some softness, gently framing the face. This type bangs though can be difficult to maintain so if you’re not someone who regularly makes it in for a haircut, you’ll want to consider a blunt cut bang in order to get the effect a bit more longer lasting and low maintenance.…

Vitamin D Will Save Your Life From the Swine Flu Virus

The pandemic alarm sirens are wailing. North America is on the cusp of the dreaded mutation of the current H1N1 virus and a repeat of the second wave of the killer 1918 Spanish Flu will become reality. The current H1N1 vaccine being pushed all over the world will basically be useless against this newly mutated virus. You are at a critical juncture as you read this article right now.
The dreaded mutation could very well occur any day now, at any hour now. We are that close to a global catastrophe. So… what does one do? Where do you turn for help? The answer is vitamin D. I could go on and on about the merits of vitamin D but at this point if you have not looked into this amazing vitamin which some claim is not even a vitamin, but rather a hormone, then I’m not going to explain it to you in detail here in this article. I’m not here to explain. I’m here to warn.
The information about vitamin D is out there if you look for it. What I am here to do is to implore you to go to the store and buy vitamin D. Get it. Take it. Pump your system full of vitamin D right now. Right now. Do it. Do not worry about a fatal overdose of Vitamin D because that, my friends, is a myth. Have you ever heard of someone overdosing on vitamin D? Seriously, has there ever been one documented case of death due to excessive vitamin D intake? Depending on your skin complexion, the average person gets 10,000 to 20,000 IU’s of vitamin D from being out in the summer noon day sun for about 15 minutes . A sunny day at the beach in your bathing suit will give you at least 50,000 IU’s of vitamin D, as long as you don’t use sunscreens. 50,000 IU’s of vitamin D is about 100 times the recommended daily dosage of vitamin D set by governmental health agencies. The sun is the way nature intended us to get vitamin D. However, when that hot sun goes away for the winter, like it does up here in Canada, everyone starts getting vitamin D deficient, and low a behold this is always the time when the flu bugs hit and do their damage!
In a nutshell, I highly recommend all readers start taking at least 2,000 IU’s of vitamin D every day for the course of this flu season. Personally, I am taking 5,000 IU’s every day in supplement form. That my friends, is the best defense against the H1N1 flu bug, and the best defense against any future mutations of this flu bug.
North America is about to get hit with a mutated form of the current H1N1 virus at any moment now. All the current vaccines will be useless against this new strain of the flu. What will you do to protect yourself from this flu when it mutates further? Seriously, what will you do? When that dreaded mutation happens and people start falling dead hard and fast like they did back in October, November, December of 1918, then I’m going to increase my intake of vitamin D to 10,000 IU’s per day. That’s my game plan. The potential benefits of excessive vitamin D supplementation far outweigh the risks of taking more vitamin D than what the governmental health agencies recommend.
Right now, many of you are thinking that I’m an alarmist with pretty much zero credibility. Well, you’re right. I am an alarmist, and really, I do have zero credibility with regards to influenza and vitamins. However, don’t throw out the baby with the bath water. Look into vitamin D. If you can take one thing away from this article it would be this. Do not let yourself become vitamin D deficient this flu season. It could be the deadliest mistake you’ll ever make.
Prepare for the worst, and hope for the best.…

Supplements and RDA’s

When you go to the supermarkets or health food shops looking for a multi vitamin/mineral and you pick one up and on the label it says “vitamin A 100% RDA, vitamin D 100% RDA” and so on, so you think “I’ll take this one as it has the full amount of RDA’S for all these vitamins”.
But, the thing is that these guidelines set by the government and health experts are basically the bare minimum for each of these micronutrients to stop diseases such as scurvy (vitamin C deficiency), beri-beri (thiamine deficiency), pellagra nicotinic acid and tryptophen deficiency), rickets (vitamin D deficiency) and so on, although these amount are the bare minimum needed to keep these diseases at bay, it is by no means enough to stay in peak condition, the distance between a diet to prevent these conditions and a diet to stay in the best of health are a million miles apart.(10)
It is impossible to say that such and such is the amount for the RDA’s for everyone on the planet. Every single person needs different and varying amounts of each vitamin and mineral, and this all depends on sex, age, where you live (country or city), what medication you are on, which country you live in, weight, fitness, activity, what exercise you do, your job, anything you suffer from (any conditions, ailments or diseases), family history, allergies, diet, if you smoke or drink the list goes on and on, as there are hundreds of factors that contribute to your well being.
Let’s take a couple of examples:
If you live in a busy city as opposed to out in the country, then one of the things you will need more than the ones who live in less polluted areas are antioxidants. There are way too many antioxidants to list, but whereas RDA,s tell you vitamin A 800ug, vitamin C 60mg and vitamin E 10mg, it really should be more like vitamin A 2,500ug, vitamin C 1,000- 2,000mg and vitamin E 300mg (11) as a much stronger level of anti oxidants will be required to fight all of the extra free radicals from exhaust and pollution.
But increasing your vitamins and minerals is only part of the story. Another thing that people may not realise is that certain vitamins and minerals help each other and are needed in certain combinations and certain ones work against each other. Pretty much everyone knows that calcium is needed for strong bones and teeth, but this does not make the slightest bit of difference unless there are suitable levels of vitamin D, magnesium and phosphorus because these all work together for the maximum uptake by the body. Iron needs vitamin C to increase absorption, potassium needs magnesium to hold it in the cells, sodium works with potassium in order to maintain water balance and proper nerve and muscle impulses, and then on the other side of the coin zinc and copper are highly antagonistic as they stop each other working properly and phosphorus is hindered by high levels of iron, magnesium and aluminum to name but a few.…
